Foam Rolling- Part of Fitness

When people think of exercise, they think of running, weight lifting, yoga, pilates, sports, etc. Those are all amazing and so good for you! But something that people don't think of is foam rolling.

Foam rolling is one of my favorite things to do! It is an amazing way to help your muscles recover after exercising.

A lot of people don't know what foam rolling is or how to do it! So, let me tell you: In fancy words, foam rolling is a type of self-myofascial release (SMR) technique. Simply said, you are basically just giving yourself a massage using a..... you guessed it! A foam roller!

When you use a foam roller, you are able to really get deep into your muscles. There is a really good article here from Healthline. It talks about what it is and the benefits of using a foam roller.

Now, Beachbody is my favorite place to go for my foam rolling videos, but you need to have an account with them in order to have access. So, I did some research myself and found four YouTube videos that are pretty good! There are a lot out there, but the following four are the ones that I feel are best.

This first one is probably my favorite one out of the three. She really teaches you how to use the roller on all of your muscles in a safe way:

The second one is great because it is quick and it really gets your lower body.

Third, we have this guy who gets straight to the point and again, teaches you how to foam roll safely.

And finally, video number four! She is really good as well, and she has a cool accent :)

Just remember, when you are foam rolling, it is normal for it to be a tad....painful. They say this in the videos, but if you come to a really painful spot, just hold the pressure on there! That means your muscle needs to have some tension released!

If you need a foam roller, I personally use this one:

They do have longer ones or shorter ones that you can choose. Happy foam rolling!
