Let me start out by saying that I am not a Beachbody coach, but I have been using Beachbody for several years now and truly love them!
I wrote a post about how much I hated my body and what I decided to do about it (you can read it here). Well, this is one of the things: Ultimate Portion Fix by Autumn Calabrese.
She created this program to help teach people about more than just what foods you should be eating to fuel your body. She teaches you that your body only needs a certain amount of food, aka portions. The way she teaches this concept is by using color coded containers. Beachbody sells containers on their website, but I like these ones from Amazon a bit better. You get more for your money, and they are labeled differently.
Starting to use the container system to track your portions can be intimidating at first. It is a completely new thing that you have to learn. I know that it was definitely overwhelming for me in the beginning. But Autumn will walk you step by step on how to do it. There are videos and a workbook that help you figure out how many of each container you get in a day.
Here is a look at the amount of containers of eat that I get in a day
Now when I saw that I was going to have to go from eating zero vegetables a day to 4 servings (4 cups) a day, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go through with changing my eating habits..... because veggies were gross. BUT Autumn does include a lot of different recipes that show the container count for each one. For example:
This recipe is from one of her cookbooks. You can see that it shows how many of each container you would get from this particular recipe.
Meal planning with this is key. Autumn always says that "Being prepared isn't half the battle, it IS the battle". I have found that to be so true! She has a lot of tips on meal prepping that have helped me. Cutting a bunch of vegetables at the beginning of the week and storing them in the fridge is one thing that keeps me on track. These ones from Amazon work really well for storing fresh food in the fridge and for taking your meals to work (or wherever you go throughout the day).
Overall, this program did help me get my eating under control. The hard part is staying on track and prepping your food. If I don't have food ready when I start to feel hungry I end up grabbing something full of sugar and gobbling it down.
One thing to mention: Let's say you do start doing this program, but you have a day where you weren't perfect. Maybe you ate some extra carb servings, or maybe you ate that piece of cake. Don't hate on yourself! Being mad at myself when I wasn't perfect was hard for me to get over. You just have to remember that tomorrow is a new day!
If you want to give the Ultimate Portion Fix a try, you can get it from Beachbody here.
If you don't want to purchase the full program from Beachbody, Autumn does have a book she came out with titled "Lose Weight Like Crazy, Even if You Have a Crazy Life"
She goes through the whole portion control program in her book. I honestly loved reading it!
So, if you are tired of not feeling good in your own skin or if your health is in need of some help, you should try out the portion control method. It isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle change :)
